LOUD Girl Movement celebrates the day when Dorothy Dandridge was born
Actress and Singer Dorothy Dandridge, was also an activist who absolutely refused to perform or take acting roles if she did not have equal rights to the men acting and performing in the very same films.
Her role as “Carmen Jones” made her the first Black actress to play a role outside of being a maid or caretaker, blazing the trail for Black women and non-Black women of color in the film industry. Check out her “You Go For Me” performance from the herstorical film, below.
